Muttadiles
The Muttadiles are bosses encountered in the Chambers of Xeric. It is a dog-like creature that has horribly mutated into a giant crocodilian beast. The original muttadile was pregnant at the time when Xeric transformed it into its current form and as such its offspring was warped too. The two beasts now act as guardians of the chambers. The word 'Muttadile' is a portmanteau of mutt, mutant and crocodile.
Upon starting, several noxious tendrils will appear which deal damage to players who try to leave the chamber. There are also two Muttadiles; a small one walking around the chamber, and a second, larger Muttadile lurking in the water. The bosses are fairly notorious for constantly walking towards and away from players. A meat tree is also nearby.
Meat tree
Meat tree is a tree found exclusively in the Chambers of Xeric. According to the houndmaster's diary, the meat is “a byproduct of the experiments”, referring to the experiments Xeric performed on the muttadiles to speed up a certain mutation.
The meat tree are consumed by the muttadiles to heal themselves, but players can prevent them from doing so by either binding them or chopping the tree down.
Both muttadiles will start to eat from upon reaching ~40% of their health, eating up to 50% of their health (90% total) if triggered and will eat from the tree a maximum of three times, after which they become full and will no longer eat from it. The muttadile will not take damage when they are prompted to eat the tree. If a muttadile cannot reach the tree for a prolonged amount of time (either stuck by layout or frozen), it will give up and can be damaged normally.
An iron axe is dropped by Scavenger beasts. Gaining points in the raid is possible in many different ways, all of which scales to the number of players in the Chambers of Xeric raid. In the Muttadile room, there is a meat tree. Cutting the meat tree awards you with some points.
The team also has the option of chopping the tree down in which an axe is required and the team's Woodcutting level determines its health. Each player's Woodcutting level also determines their accuracy rate and damage dealt to the tree; the axe's type does not matter. As such, having higher Woodcutting levels makes the fight significantly smoother.
The meat tree's health is five times the total Woodcutting level of the party, having a minimum of 100 health. For example, if a party of three has level 35, 73 and 99 Woodcutting (495 + 365 + 175 = 1,035), the tree's health would be 1,035; and in a party of three where each player has level 50 woodcutting, the tree's health would be 750.
The chance of successfully dealing “damage” to the tree scales with the player's Woodcutting level, being 20% at level 1 and 78% at level 99, while the “damage” dealt to the tree is a random number up to the player's Woodcutting level. The type of woodcutting axe used for chopping the tree down has no impact.
Once the tree has been chopped down, it turns into a chopped meat tree and all of the meat has been stripped from the tree.
Small Muttadile
The small muttadile attacks with both Melee and Ranged. While this smaller muttadile is alive, the larger one will stay submerged in the water, where it is unattackable and attacks players with erratic Magic that covers the entire chamber. The smaller muttadile prioritizes ranged from a distance, but due to the bosses' habit of walking in and out of melee distance, it may end up walking straight to the player or out of sight depending on layout. If it is within melee distance of a target, it will prioritize melee over ranged.
During the fight with the small Muttadile, the larger one will occasionally attack players in the chamber with Magic. Both can do large damage in melee range, so remain at a distance wherever possible.
When the Muttadile reaches around 40-50% of its health, it will go to the meat tree and eat from it to restore health. A common way of speeding up kills is to successfully
freeze the Muttadile in place and continue attacking it until it stops going for the tree.
For this reason, the Zamorak godsword or
Ice Barrage is useful. With
Ice Barrage being recommended against the small Muttadile and using the
Zamorak godsword
special attack against the larger Muttadile as it possesses a high Magic level.
For those who are NOT in Challenge Mode: This shouldn't be done if Tekton is the next room, as being able to use a
special attack there is more important.
Large Muttadile
Once the small Muttadile dies, the larger one will emerge and attack. Use ranged against both Muttadiles (
blowpipe against the smaller,
Twisted bow or (
blowpipe against the larger) and avoid being within melee distance of them, while using
Deflect missiles(Ancient Curses) or
Protect from missiles. Muttadiles should be killed carefully, as while they're significantly easier compared to the other bosses, their erratic behaviour can easily kill a careless player.
Safespots
Depending on which room you get, there are three safespots while attacking the Large Muttadile. This prevents the Large Muttadile from eating from the meat tree.
One is at the enterance near in the hallway when you enter. The second safespot is near the plants in the back corner near the water.
The third safespot is right next to the water in purple below. In this safespot, you won't recieve any damage.
Drops
The full Drop tables can be found on the official Wiki Drops Page. This page will automatically update if any changes are made.
Some of the drops from Muttadile listed below remain in the Chambers of Xeric raid only. Meaning, once you finish/end/leave the raid, these items will no longer be in your inventory and will automatically disappear.
