The King Black Dragon, often called KBD, is an aggressive three-headed dragon located inside his lair deep in the Wilderness. The King Black Dragon has a combat level of 276. His dragonfire breath is very deadly without protection so players should always take an Anti-dragon shield or Dragonfire Shield with them.

Fight overview

The King Black Dragon attacks with Melee and Dragonfire.

• Melee: The King Black Dragon rams his middle head at you, or attempts to claw you. They do stab/slash damage respectively and have a max hit of 26.
• Dragonfire: The King Black Dragon has four different types of dragonfire. They can all hit up to 65 if completely unprotected. Protect from Magic offers slight but not much resistance compared to other chromatic dragons.
• Normal dragonfire: A regular ball of fire similiar to that of other dragons, can be fully blocked with an anti-dragon/dragonfire shield and antifire.
• Freezing dragonfire: An icy version of the normal dragonfire, which deals up to 10 damage with full protection. Has a slight chance of freezing the target similar to a wyvern's ice breath.
• Shocking dragonfire: An electrical version of the normal dragonfire which deals up to 10 damage with full protection. Has a slight chance of draining the target's stats by 2. Super restores should be brought to counter this effect, especially as it will shorten the duration of combat potions.
• Poison dragonfire: A green version of the normal dragonfire, which deals up to 10 damage with full protection. Has a slight chance of poisoning the target for 8 damage. Antidotes should be brought if you do not plan to wear a Serpentine helm.

Pray Protect from Melee and Piety if you are on the regular prayerbook.

Pray Deflect Melee and Turmoil if you are on Ancient Curses.

Location

You can get to King Black Dragon by teleporting near his lair via the Monsters teleport in your spell book. You then open the gate, climb down the ladder and push the lever.

Gear Setup

Melee is the recommended style to use against the King Black Dragon. It is very important that you bring a dragonfire shield, some form of antifire potion, and some form of antipoison. It is also important to only bring items that you are willing to lose, as the lair is in the wilderness in a multi combat zone.

Here is an example of an inventory setup.

• Antidote++ is the best form of poison protection aside from Serpentine Helm.
• Extended Antifire is the best form of Antifire.
• Super Restores are recommended over Super Prayers in the case of a Pker attacking you.
• Amulet of Glory, ring of wealth, or Grand Seed Pod for lvl-30 teleport

The amount of each potion that you take will depend on your gear, skill, and comfort level. Other items that are worth bringing:

• Bonecrusher
• Rune Pouch with Vengeance
• Looting Bag
• A range Switch to anti-pk (Rune Crossbow works fine)
