Ultimate Ironman Guide
Ultimate Ironman Mode is where players are completely self-sufficient and are not able to use banks (or depositboxes).
The Ultimate Ironman Mode was released on the 15th of February 2019. The main challenge of this game mode, is that you're completely unable to use the bank, deposit boxes and the Grand Exchange. This means that you're limited to the 28 inventory spots and some other small storage instances. This game mode requires you to be able to plan ahead.
In addition to Ironman Mode restrictions (no trading, staking or looting), Ultimate Ironman Mode also has the following restrictions:
- You do not have access to a bank.
- On death (outside safe minigames), you will lose all items you have with you. The items will stay on the floor for 1 hour, after which they will vanish.
- You cannot create item sets
- Items that would normally go to your refund box at a price on death, for example a fire cape or custom whip lost in the wilderness, will completely vanish instead of being added to the refund box.
- Ultimate Ironman Mode players cannot make use of bonus XP weekends. They can however participate in NPC-related bonus weekends
Refund box
The refund box can be accessed by talking to the Refund box keeper at Varrock or Edgeville.
The refund box is going to be one of the best storage locations. The refund box will store a wide variety of items, mostly being untradeable. Some items can be reclaimed for free, others for a fee. So keep this in mind when trying to deposit items into your refund box.
The way a player 'deposits' an item into the refund box, is by dropping it and waiting for it to despawn. Other players won't be able to pick up untradeable items, but watch out either way. Also, be a 100% sure that the items go to your refund box. If they don't, they will simply vanish and be lost forever.
Below is a list of items that can be stored in your refund box without consequences:
Item | Costs | |
---|---|---|
Coins | Free | |
100m ticket | Free | |
500m ticket | Free | |
1b ticket | Free | |
Cannonball | Free | |
Cannon base | Free | |
Cannon stand | Free | |
Cannon barrels | Free | |
Cannon furnace | Free |
Looting bag
The looting bag has a 1/25 drop rate from any wilderness NPC, and are easily obtained by killing giant rats north of Varrock's east entrance. They can store 28 items or stacks.
NOTE: On a UIM, the only methods of reobtaining your items from a looting bag are to drop it and destroy it, or suiciding to an NPC.
Rune pouch
The rune pouch can be purchased from the slayer store. It can hold up to 16k of 3 different kinds of runes (48k maximum).
Coal bag
The coal bag can be purchased from the supplies store at ::shops. It can hold up to 27 pieces of coal in it.
Essence pouches
Rune essence pouches can be purchased from the Mage of Zamorak in Varrock or obtained by killing NPCs in the Abyss to get them as drops. Their capacities, in order from smallest pouch to largest, are 3, 6, 9, and 12, allowing you to carry 30 extra essence at a time.
Menagerie
At level 37 construction, and indoor or outdoor menagerie can be built in your player-owned house for 300m. The menagerie stores your pets, allowing you to keep space free in your inventory while still tracking all the pets you've collected.
Suicide Dropping
Suicide dropping is when you suicide to an NPC in an easy-to-access location in order to drop your items, without having them despawn until the 60 minute death timer runs out. This is useful if you want to take a break and do some skilling, or just need some extra storage space for a short time period. Keep in mind some worn armour/weapons are affected by this (Chaotics and colored slayer helms disappear, Barrows/Nex gear degrade, etc.), so ALWAYS make sure you don't have any important items that are permanently lost or made unusable on death.
