Before starting you will need some rune essence.
Buy these in the supplies shop at home or at '::shops'.

Once you've bought some rune essence use your home teleport and make your way to the Mage of Zamorak.
Don't worry about unnoting your essence if you haven't yet as there are bank booths at every altar location.

When he asks whether you want to be teleported to the abyss, select "Yes".

You will spawn on the south side of the inner ring of the abyss.
In order to get started you will need to craft at least one air rune. Enter the air rift.

After entering a rift simply click on the altar to make your unnoted rune essence into that rune type.

Notice: If you are a skiller, these do yield Magic experience.

In order to craft these you will need 99 Runecrafting, 1x Soft clay, 1x Law rune & 3x Air rune per tablet.
The air runes are required but do not get used as the law runes do. You can also buy runes in the magic shop.
Using an air staff will increase efficiency. These yield 2,650 Runecrafting EXP & 2,650 Magic EXP.

There are three locations at which you can use a lectern to create teleportation tablets:

• The Abyss

• Note - The Astral altar can be accessed through the portal in the center of the Abyss.

• Premium Skilling Zone

• Player-owned Houses

When you reach higher levels you will become able to make multiple runes out of a single rune essence.
You will not get extra experience for the extra runes since it is based on the amount of rune essence used.
