**Duel Arena**
The Al-Kharid Duel Arena is a place where players can go to engage in one-on-one Combat, either for fun or for staking coins and items. The Duel Arena is available to all players. Duel Arena challenge areas are identified upon entering by a battleaxe {{https://i.imgur.com/RDjXQjN.png?nolink|Duel Arena battleaxe}} which appears in the bottom right hand corner of the interface, during a duel this is changed to a skull {{https://i.imgur.com/4O5jxb3.png?nolink|Skull icon}}.
The [[guides:quests_minigames|minigame]] gives players an opportunity to fight each other in a controlled environment, where matches take place against players of a similar skill level. Players are able to register their interest in finding a fight; while a match is being prepared, players can continue with whatever they were doing prior.
**History**
The Al-Kharid Duel Arena is an ancient complex dating back to the Second Age. It was discovered beneath the sand during the late Fifth Age after which archaeologists of the Varrock Museum excavated it, before turning their attention to the excavation of Saranthium and Senntisten at the Digsite.
Following the excavation the Emir of Al Kharid had it restored to its former glory, with the arena, once again, being used as a fighting ground. This attracted many participants and spectators, and it was not long before the arena turned into a place of gambling. Three officials: Maoma, captain of the Emir's guard, Koriff, the hostess of the arena, and Saika the accountant of the arena, formed the Calamity Coven, where they abused their positions to rig matches, encourage betting and falsify accounts to earn themselves huge amounts of profit. The Coven was eventually found out and was dispelled, although under which circumstances are not known. Following this the Emir gave the place a new start, increased control and heightened security to avoid similar incidents in the future.
**Location**
The arena is located north-east of Al-Kharid. It is fenced off from the rest of the area.

**Account Builds**
To succeed in the Arena, players should be familiar with player killing mechanics as well as can adapt their playstyle across multiple player killing builds
**Picking a fight**
To fight another player, right-click your intended opponent and select the "Challenge" option. This would tell that player that someone wished to duel with them, and they accepted by challenging that player in return.
**Combat**
This would open the dueling options screen, which defines the parameters for the battle. The screen shows the name and Combat level of the opponent, as well as the amount of gold/tickets/items each player is offering up for a "bet", or a "stake". There are 11 different options that could be turned on or off and are adjustable by either player. These are detailed as follows:
* No Ranged: No ranged weaponry could be equipped during the battle.
* No Melee: Players could not engage in hand-to-hand combat, including bare fists/feet.
* No Magic: No magical attack spells could be cast.
* No Special Attacks: Special attacks could not be used.
* No Forfeit: Players could not escape the arena; the fight lasted until one player dies.
* No Drinks: Players could not drink anything that boosts stats, such as potions. All stats that were boosted prior to the fight were reset to their default values once the fight begins.
* No Food: Eating food to heal was not allowed, including Saradomin brews.
* No Prayer: Using the Prayer skill was not allowed.
* No Movement: Players couldn't walk or run during the battle.

Some of the options can't be combined; for instance, having no Ranged, Melee, or Magic makes it impossible to fight.
It is also possible to select and disable equipment slots on this screen. Rangers should be careful not to check off shield if they intend to use a bow.
Once the battle begins, players are teleported into the arena itself with a 3-second countdown before the fighting actually began. If "No Forfeit" was not checked off, players who were losing (or simply wished to end the duel early) can retreat through one of the trapdoors, ending the battle immediately. Anything staked was awarded to the other player.
**Outcome**
After the battle ended, players are teleported back to the building beside the arena and healed (poison and stat-reducing effects are negated as well). Any Ranged weapons that fell to the ground were automatically returned to the owner. If there is a stake, the victor claimed the prize(s). When you die you only lose the item(s) you staked.
Near the gate was a scoreboard where players could view the last 50 battles on that server. This included the combat levels of the combatants and who won the round. The scoreboard automatically updated every five minutes.
**Rewards**
Upon completing a match, players are returned to where they were upon joining. Currently, the only rewards which you get are the item(s) you staked. You will be awarded with whatever the stake was. This will automatically appear in your inventory after the fight has been completed.
If you didn’t stake any items, then you will not receive anything.
**Warning**
Staking can become a very addictive activity if players are not careful. It is highly recommended to only stake small increments and never stake items or gold that you are not willing to lose. Many stakers have fallen into a trap where they would start off small but would eventually stake their entire bank in an attempt to recover the losses.
